After arriving in Phnom Penh, on the first day, there was still time left to visit Choeung Ek, one of the most infamous Killing Fields. Jetlagged, in the blazing mid-April heat, hearing horrific stories through the Audio Guide tour.

This was one intense experience.

The next day, we visited S-21, one of the most horrible prisons in which people were tortured, questioned, forced to bizar false confessions, and ultimately sent to the killing fields. Previously used as a school building - the contrast could not be bigger. Everybody was photographed on arrival - elderly, women and children included.

The Cambodian events of ‘75-’79 were something that would return in some form every day of our journey.
It’s just still part of the daily life of every single citizen.
